  • Kapany was born to a Sikh family in Moga, Punjab, India and was educated in India. In 1952 Kapany conducted studies that led to the invention of optical fibre.
  • A graduate of Agra University, India, he completed advanced studies in optics, and PhD degree at Imperial College London in 1955.
  • Kapany is considered as one of the founders of fibre optics.
